A poetic hodgepodge or not

Hey, it's October...what's one fun thing on your October calendar?

This year my husband and I are taking my sister Sue out for lunch so that.

Thursday is National Poetry Day (first Thursday in October) ...do you like to read poetry? If so, what's a favourite poem or whose poetry do you especially enjoy?

Never been interested in poetry but there have been some I liked, can’t say what they were though.

Tell us about something you've seen recently that could be described as 'poetry in motion'

Sorry, nothing comes to mind

What's one song on your autumn playlist? Do you have an autumn playlist? If not, pretend you do. If yes, then feel free to share more than one.

A couple of songs popped into my head when I read this, they are June as cold as December by the Everly Bros and Cold day in July by the Dixie Chicks.

Share a quote that inspires you this time of year especially.

I can’t think of anything

Insert your own random thought here.

My life is an open book, a wonderful book filled with memories of a pretty damn good life and each day something new happens that is stored in the book of my life.

  1. Dearest Jo-Anne,
Sorry but I'm not a victim of most people that have been brainwashed and molded into 'mass–thinking' and for buying certain 'seasonal' things.
    Sorry!
My life is one with depth, with love and loyalty to those that deserve it. Filled with fond memories of a true love and lots of traveling FOR WORK—not a vacation! Knowing other cultures by having worked and lived with the people and enjoying their food.
Poetry I seldom read... no time for.
Just grateful for a lot of things and more so for the little, simple pleasures of life.
NO interest in anything FAKE like redesigning your face... What an emptiness for not feeling comfy in the body you inherited!
It is not about our 'hull' but about our SOUL and that never dies.
Don't think a lot of people will earn frequent flyer miles to heaven by following the masses like lemmings.
    Hugs and admiration,
    Mariette

    1. Dear Mariette
Your comment has left me a little confused
The only seasonal stuff I have is Christmas stuff
You have had an interesting and full life by the sound of it
I have no interest in fake people, those who are two faced and shallow, I can do without such people in my life.

    2. Dear Jo-Anne,
Nothing to confuse but I'm not and never will run for the fall decorations and things like Halloween etc. Sure our religious holidays like Christmas and Easter are being observed but again, not in any commercial way. The Dutch celebrate Saint Nicholas on December 5 for adults at night and 6 for kids.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    3. It is just that I didn't mention fall decorations or seasonal decorations

    4. But by getting on the band wagon for joining any national day or whatever fall related thing is the same. Look at our Parents—there were not such MASS followed 'trends' but they lived a more satisfying life!

    5. Ok now I understand, really don't give a rats ass about national this or that day and don't see the point in them same with international this or that day as there are just too many and as I said what is the point in them

  2. Nature's first green is hold
    Her hardest hue to hold
    Her early leaf's a flower
    But only so an hour
    So leaf subsides to leaf
    As Eden sank to grief
    Dawn goes down to day
    Nothing gold can stay.

    By Robert Frost

I typed that from memory. I wonder how close I came to remembering it all.

    1. Big oops, TYPO, the first line ends with gold. That's a typo not a forgotten word,

    2. And I think there should be an "As" before dawn. That's a forgotten word.

    3. How cool you could remember the words, I am not able to remember words to a poem

  3. My October is shaping up to be a madcap...uh...um...well, not much, really. I'll probably mow my lawn for the last time this year. So...there's that.

  4. What a lovely way to kick off October! Poetry has never been my strong area either, but I appreciate the beauty of it when it resonates. It’s interesting how certain poems can stick with us, even if we can’t recall their titles! I love your random thought about life being an open book! It’s so true that every day brings new memories and experiences that enrich our stories.

  7. I can remember the last lines of Ozymandias but that's about it. And Marriette confused me too, no offense.

    1. I was confused as I didn't mention anything about seasonal decorations.

    2. National Poetry Day is a dictated trend... Sure I love and appreciate poetry but not by mandate! People seem to be scared for using their own brain and for living their own life. They all want to belong and feel 'liked' — that is so artificial!
