A May Hodgepodge

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-655.html

1. Do you like your name? Are you named after someone (grandparent, etc)? If you have children, how did you choose their names?

Yes, I like my name mum want the name Anne in honour of her grandmother who raised her for 10yrs her name was Mary-Anne and I think dad came up with the name Jo-Anne.

I have three daughters when I was having our eldest my husband really liked Jamie-Lee Curtis I didn’t like the name Jamie but we agreed on Kathy-Lee, I do not remember how we came up with Natasha for our second daughter, nor do I remember why we picked Jessica for our third daughter but her middle name is Mae and that was in honour of my mum, who’s name was Mavis but was usually called Mae.

2.  A piece of red velvet cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a slice of blueberry pie? You can only have one...which will you choose? If you could pick any red, white, or blue dessert other than those listed here, what would you choose?

Red velvet cake without a doubt

3.  What's a job you'd like to try for just one day?

I gave this a lot of thought, and I can’t think of anything

4. Any patriotic decor in your home currently or coming up this summer?

Nope not an Aussie thing

5. It's the end of May, so let's exercise our brains. Sum up your month with an acrostic using the word MAY. We can do it!!

Mornings are my time of day,
April sucked,
You are all one of the reasons I use my brain each day.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Remember that we shouldn’t take our life for granted, we never know what the day has in store for us so every day try your best to be kind and understanding to the people around you.

Hodgepodge

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-654.html

What do you make more complicated than it needs to be?

I can’t think of anything but there must be something

What impresses you?

Not a lot, to be honest, I guess that my granddaughter Sydney is 16 works two jobs while going to school and has saved a nice some of money for a car.

On a scale of 1-10 how picky of an eater are you?  (1=extremely and 10=not at all) If you had to eat a meal made entirely of one colour what colour would you choose?

I am a one and have always been one

Brown because when you cook roast potatoes or chips also chocolate is brown.

What does balance in life mean to you? Does your life currently feel 'balanced'?

Balanced? Well, I guess it would be when there is nothing stressful going on in the family and I don’t feel like I am being pulled apart. Yes, my life is in balance

If you could travel the world for a year what would be your first destination?

This is easy Uluru, this a place I have always wanted to visit

Insert your own random thought here.

What is happiness?

Do you feel happy? I do feel happy

I feel happiness isn’t acting cheerful and laughing at nothing, it is more like having inner peace and not spending much time around people who drag you down and give you a headache.

Sharing my world

Hi everyone I am taking part in sharing my world again here are this week’s questions and answers, which I found here: https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2026/05/04/sharing-my-world-18th-may/

 Here are this week’s questions:

Do you celebrate anniversaries for family members?

Nope

Do you prefer to receive a card for your special day or a social media message?

A card is more personal, but a text or social media message is better than nothing.

Do you think the cost of greetings cards are value for money?

Some cost way too much I don’t like to pay more than $3, I have got some really nice cards from Temu for less $2.

Do you look forward to mail deliveries on a day to day basis, not just a celebration.

Yes, I do our mail is delivered every second day.

Gratitude:

Sh

Sunday Stealing

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

This week our inspiration is Life of a Fool. This blogger maintains this meme has "been seen everywhere." The questions only require a simple, definitive answer, but if you'd like to elaborate, we'd like to hear what you have to say.

Which one?

1. Pepsi or Coke?

I prefer Coke to Pepsi but I don’t mind Pepsi Max. As a child my mum remembers the doctor telling her to give my flat lemonade when sick and mum said can it be Coke she won’t drink lemonade.

2. Cappuccino or coffee?  Neither I prefer a hot chocolate

3. Chocolate or vanilla?  Both with Milo over the top

4. Hot tea or iced tea?  Neither

5. Dinner for two or a party?  A family get together

Hodgepodge on a wet day

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-653.html

1. What's one piece of advice you would you give a recent or soon-to-be graduate?

Just take things as they come and remember to laugh and enjoy yourself

2. May 15th marks the birth date of L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. At this point in time are you more in need of brains, courage, heart, or a trip back home? Explain.

Often I feel like my brain is dying and needs to be rebooted

3.  "There's no place like home" is an oft repeated line from Baum's book. When was the last time you felt the truth of that statement?

Returning home from the cruise

4. May is National BBQ Month...do you own a grill? Who does the grilling at your house? What's your favorite thing to throw on the grill? What's the last thing you grilled?

Nope, use to when the girls were young

5. What's a memory you replay in your head when you need a little joy?

My grandson Blain running into my arms screaming “my nana” over and over he was 2

6. Insert your own random thought here.

A quote by someone unknown just not me but I agree with it

“Stop treating your own heart like a house you’re only visiting. Move in, hang the lace curtains, and light the candles just because the glow makes you feel lovely. You don’t need a reason to buy yourself the silk, brew the rose tea, or speak to your reflection with the tenderness of a best friend. You are the garden, the gardener, and the bloom all at once. Stop asking for permission to be soft with yourself and start living like the girl who finally realized her own company is the most exquisite luxury she’ll ever own.”

Just some hodgepodge

 ,

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-652.html

What's something you may do this month?

Visit the cemetery for Mother’s Day

Hola! Hodgepodge Day lands just after Cinco de Mayo... how do you feel about Mexican food? What's your favorite dish? Do you make it at home or is it a strictly dine out option?

I have never tried Mexican food

When the children of today grow up what do you think they'll say about this time period? What do you most hope they remember?

Who knows, many may think what the hell were people thinking and how the hell did that man become president

What advice would you give a new mother?

Your baby doesn’t hate you

What's a phrase your mother often said to you? If you're a mum, do you say it to your own children?

“Don’t make me come there” and yeah, I said it to my children

Insert your own random thought here.

Remember there are many types of medicine not just the pills a doctor gives you, such as laughter, rest and reading. Some may also find work to be medicine as it gets them moving and doing something and at times that is what is needed. Often just going for a walk can be a type of medicine. Whatever type of medicine you need take.

Another Hodgepodge

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-651.html

Are you feeling more reset, restart, or full speed ahead as we move into May? Tell us why.

I do thanks for the cruise I recently took

Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, cinema, theatre, music...what's your favorite form of art? Elaborate.

Music or books I enjoy both

What time is dinner at your house? How do you feel about leftovers?

No set time now days when my girls were young it was between 4 and 5pm

What's the last thing you fell down a rabbit hole investigating?

I can’t think of anything

And now for a question from the book Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me...

At what are you 'self-taught?'

I am sure there must be something but right now I can’t remember anything

Insert your own random thought here.

It takes some inner strength and feeling brave to stop seeing yourself in a negative way, to accept that others see you differently they often see someone who is a survivor, who has come through some rough times and those times have made you stronger. Stop looking in the mirror and seeing the old you but instead see the strong person you are now.

Remarkable Sister

Sister, you are one of the most remarkable women I know.

You make the most of each day and spread comfort, kindness and laughter where you go. You are not embarrassed to let those close to you envelop you in their friendship and love. You seek beauty in your surroundings. You look for goodness in everyone you meet.

You inspire others with your words any your action, providing what a person needs even when they don’t ask for it. You never feel sorry for yourself. You maintain your faith and hold you head high.

You are an amazing person and an incredible sister. You are so much more to those around you than you could ever imagine, and you are appreciated and loved deeply for who you are.

The world is a better place because you are here, those of us who have the honour to be part of your life are truly blessed.

A grill cheese hodgepodge

Hi everyone, here is the latest hodgepodge

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2026/02/hodgepodge-questions-volume-649.html

Big week in the US of A...do you do your own taxes? What's something you've found 'taxing' lately?

Dealing with people in general

When it comes to travel are you a last-minute packer or a lay it all out a week in advance type? Do you struggle to pack light? Share a packing tip that has worked for you.

More a last-minute packer but a week before I make a list of what to pack.

April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Hmmm...who knew it got its own month? Do you like a grilled cheese sandwich? What ingredient do you add to take yours to the next level?

Yesh often but we call it a cheese toastie

There's a well known quote that says-

'A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for." John A. Shedd

Is constant growth necessary or do you think it's more important to prioritize stability and peace in your life?

I think growth is necessary as things change is part of life and not growing and changing isn’t good.

Let's wrap this up with a fun spring this or that-

  • daffodils or tulips Daffodils
  • lemonade or iced tea Lemonade
  • gardening or hiking Neither
  • ladybugs or butterflies Butterflies
  • umbrella or raincoat Raincoat
  • floral patterns or polka dots Floral patterns

Insert your own random thought here.

Hope is the quiet, steady rhythm of a heart that refuses to stop. It isn’t a grand promise that things will be easy; it is simply the choice to believe that what is coming is worth the wait. It is the small, persistent light that stays on in the window, even when you aren’t quite ready to open the door.”
